Theraplay informed practice

Service Description

Theraplay involves the caregiver in engaging in natural patterns of playful, fun, healthy interaction with the child/young person. It uses simple activities that creates closeness and connection in the present moment between child and adult. The practitioner first observes the parent and child performing a series of structured tasks together. They then guide the parent and child through playful, fun games, developmentally challenging activities, and tender, nurturing activities. Engaging in this way helps the parent regulate the child’s behaviour and communicates love, joy, and safety; building a closer connection. Sessions are video taped so the practitioner can use them for caregiver reflection and intervention planning.
